I am having a hard time learning about java server programming..any book recommendations ??

There are quite a few books on Java server programming. The best one depends on what you mean by the term. For instance, querying Amazon for "J2EE" returned over 1400 hits (how can there possibly be that many?!!). I suggest you go to Amazon, type in some terms that narrow your search, use the "Search Inside" feature, and pick one. You can frequently save money with their used-book resellers. Good luck!

Also try the Web Tools Platform associated with the Eclipse IDE. You'll probably find plenty of tutorials which demonstrate both JSP and familiarize yourself with the development environment.
