Hello. Can I get help on this question? Do linear equation and function share the same meaning? Why or why not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

linear equations are one form of function a function is when a quantity y is completely determined by quantity x as a result of any rule. So it doesn't necessarily have to be straight eg. parabola which is another function. do you get what im saying or am i just confusing you? i only just learnt this today so the info is still pretty fresh to me
