a soccer field is 130 yds long, and a football field is 120 yds long. how many times the area of the smaller field is the area of the larger field.

OpenStudy (william):

Do you know how wide these fields are?

OpenStudy (william):

In order to calculate the area we need the length times the width, or we at least need to know they are the same width!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the field are soccer: 100 yd football 53 1/3 yd

OpenStudy (william):

Okay, great! Do you know how to calculate the area? hint: length x width

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill be right back

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i multiplied already what next

OpenStudy (william):

Okay what are the two areas!?

OpenStudy (william):

We need to take the ratio of the two areas, for example if one field was 8 sqft and the other was 4 sqft, the ratio is 8/4, or 2:1 where we would say the filed was 2x the other field.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6360 and 13000

OpenStudy (william):

You may want to check the math, I think it's closer to 6400 for the football field! But anyways we would say 13000/6400 = x Then the soccer field's area is x times as large as the football field.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so it would be 2 times bigger

OpenStudy (william):

Roughly yes. I'm not sure how accurate you need to be, but yes it is \[\approx\] 2.03
