gloria jones drives 15mi to work in about half an hour. write a rate of travel in miles per hour. Why do you think this rate is called her average speed?

15miles in .5 hours. Basically, mph is how far she would have gone at that same rate in 1 hour. so you want to make the denominator 1. so 15m/.5hr = 15m/.5hr *2/2 (1) = 30m/1hr = 30m/hr

OpenStudy (sandra):

it's called her average speed because she didn't necessarily drive the same speed the whole time - but we since she drove 30m/hr, we know that at that rate, that's how fast she was going to whole time in order to travel that distance
