Let F be the function with derivative given by F ' (x)=x^2-(2/x). Determine the interval(s) on which F is decreasing. (i really don't get this)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The derivative gives you the slope of the function, so if the function is decreasing, the derivative has to be negative and if the function is increasing, the derivative is positive. now try to rephrase the question being asked - "when is the funcion decreasing" becomes "when is the derivative negative" - a much easier question to answer.
