there is 22 coins in a drawer consisting of nickels and quarters. the value of the coins is$3.90. how many nickels and quarters are there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nickels are worth 5 cents. quarters are 25 cents. the value of each coin x the number of that type of coin = total value of those coins. So, 22 is total number of coins. we can say x = # of nickels. then 22-x is # of quarters. So, 5x+25(22-x) = 390. Solve for x (that will be # of nickels). (22-x) will be # of quarters.
