Mom folded the napkins into fourths, so that they would be 8 inch squares. What is the area of the napkins when they are fully open?

4 of the 8 inch squares fit into the full napkin. one side of a square is 8 inches. 2 squares fit along one side of the napkin when fully open. So the length is 8 times 2 =16 inches. Since we're dealing with square shapes, the width is also 16 inches. Area equals length times width. 16 times 16=256 inches squared
