A store paid $1849 for 49 calculators. The store paid $8 for each scientific calculator and $55 for graphing calculators. How many scientific calculators were ordered and how many graphing?

Let the number of scientific calculators be x, the number of graphing calculators be y. We get two equations: x+y = 49 8x + 55y = 1849 Now, solve these equations to get the values of x and y.
