what is 3/4-1/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

set the debominators to same value, in which they both have in common, which should be 12. to get 4 to 12, we multiplied 3, so we will do the same to the numerator. 3*3=9 so the first new fraction is 9/12

denominators *

next we get 6 to equal 12by multiplying 6*2. as we did before we, multiply 2 times the numerator as well. 1*2=2 so this new fraction is 2/12. you now subtract the fractions. 9/12-1/12= 8/12

8/12 can be simplified to 2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is the answer 2/3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8/12 or 2/3 their both mathematically correct. Teacher would prefer 2/3 if they've taught you how to simplify.
