\[2x-3y=-2, 4x+y=24\]
multiply the first equation by 2 - 4x-3y=-4. find the difference between the new equation and the second equation. you should get -4y=-28, therefore, y = 7 and you can solve for x! :)
Multiply first equation by -2 giving: -4x+6y=4 Add to the second equation: 4x+y=24 -4x+6y=4 Sum is: 7y=28 Solve for y: y=28/7=4 Substitute for y in first equation 2x-12=-2 Solve for x: 2x=10, x=5 Verify by substituting in the second equation
