The table shows the heights of grade 11 students in sacha's school. Height (cm) : [155-160], [160-165],[165-1700],[170-175],[175-180],[180-185],[185-190], frequency: 2,6,12,11,6,4,2. Find the median, the mode and the range of heighs. b) which measure of central tendency best describes the data? explain.

help me someone

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

i can try..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes u can :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mode = number that appears the MOST. According to your data, that would be in the range of 165-170.

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

veronometry knows this better than me..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

median is 170-175

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Median is the middle number. Since you have 43 students, the median student would be student #22. This falls into the [170-175] range.

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

yay i just fanned u veronometry..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the mean, does your teacher want you to take the middle number of each range?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wher the heck did you get 22 from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks Bahrom! :]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yea i got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are 43 students. The middle student would be student #22. In other words, if you listed out all the students from 1 to 43, 22 would be right smack in the middle (aka the median).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool ! good stuuf :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And, since the data isn't exact (they give you ranges versus the actual data), the BEST central tendency for this would be the MODE.
