(x + 7) (x - 15) = 0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
The quadratic factors as (x+6)(x+2)=0 so the solutions are x=-6 or x=-2.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x = -7; x = 15
x = -7
x = 15
x = 7; x = -15
OpenStudy (anonymous):
which one

You need an equation first

(x + 7) (x - 15) = 0

same thing as above:
x=-7 and x=15
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x=-7 or x=15...they're both solutions.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x2 + 5x = 6
x = 1; x = -6
x = -1; x = -6
x = -1; x = 6
x = 1; x = 6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x=-6,1
x=-6,x=-1

Smitty - when you factor as ( )( ) = 0, it means either the first factor is zero, the second is zero or they're both zero. The equation's true then for those x-values that make a factor equal to zero.
x2 + 5x - 6 =0 -> (x+6)(x-1)=0 so the answer is x = -6 or x = 1.

Smitty, you have to expand the left-hand side, subtract 9 from both sides and either factorize or complete the square or use the quadratic equation to figure out x.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x2 - 4 = 0
x = 2; x = -2
x = -2
no solutions
x = 2
