Guys i need help how do you convert:Convert 78,000 pF to µF show me how i want to understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pF is picofarad and µF is microfarad, p for pico and mu for micro. Look up "SI Unit Prefixes"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it x 10^-6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, micro is 10^-6. pico is one smaller than nano, so pico is 10^-12. smaller -> milli, micro, nano, pico, femto larger -> kilo, mega, giga, tera, exa :)

so its .078 right? just making sure.

I always just write the units as the number so I would write the pico as 78000 x10^-12. I want to get to micro right, so I need ( some number) x 10^-6. Well I went from 10^-12 to 10^-6 which is 10^6 larger, so that means in order to keep the number the same, I need to decrease the 78000 by 10^6. Each power of ten is one decimal place, so basically you just move the 78000 6 decimal places left so you have 0.078000 x 10^-6 which is 0.078000 microfarads

yes. algebraically you can expand it like this, this is my favourite way of looking at it: 78000 pF = 78000 x 10^-12 F = 78000 x 10^-6 x 10^-6 F (because -6 -6 = -12) = 78000 x 10^-6 µF = .078000 µF
