elizabeth has a box of shirts. one half are small, 2/5 are medium, and 5 shirts are large. How many shirts are in the box?
50. 25 are small, 5 are large, 20 are medium.
Can you show how you got that?
just basically guess and check, a number that can be divided by 2, and divided by 5. hald of 50 is 25, 1/5 of 50 is 10, therefore, 2/5 is 20. and you have the last 5 given to you.
thanks!
hah. no problem
I have another one. I think I have it, but want input. Harry spent 1/3 of his money on a hat, 1/6 on socks, and $12 on a tie. How much did he spend?
it doesn't give you anything else?
no
is it $24? because 1/3 is 2/6, i just added the fractions to get 1/2. so half of his money went towards the hat and socks, and the other half , the tie?
I did it a little different, but not sure I am correct. I came up with 18. I am going to see if I can find the answer key. These are both 4th grade math questions!
hahah. alright.
