f(x)=anx^(n-1)+...+a3x^2+a2x+a1. Is a textbook definition for a polynomial, if I recall correctly. A poly(many) nomial(tems) is an equation consisting of alot of terms added together: Mon(one)omials: 3x, 46x^12, 4. Bi(two)nomial: 5x^2 + 7, 12x^3 + 9x^2, x^5 + 3x. Tri(three)nomial: x^2 +x +1, x^2 -6x +9.
