the perimeter for a new rectangular penguin enclosure is to have a maximum side length of 8 meters. the width is to be twice the length (x). define a rule which give the perimeter (p) of the new enclosure.

my book says the answer is p(x) = 6x. but could somebody explain it to me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi, shivadiva, You say that the enclosure is to be rectangular and that the width is set to be twice the length, where the length is x. So, Length = x Width = 2x Perimeter is then 2*(length) + 2*(width) = 6x

thankyou :D
