find the derivative of F(x)=arctan sqrt(3x-1)

OpenStudy (vijay):

\[(1/ 2x * \sqrt{3x-1})\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got stuck cuz i got 1/3x*1/2(3x-1)^-1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u break this down to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand how this is the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 1/6x sqrt(3x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just need to know what step am i missing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

vijay did u type somethin cause im not able to see what is being typed

OpenStudy (vijay):

u have differentiate inside the bracket, i mean 3x-1

OpenStudy (vijay):

so, u will 3 above, that 3 will be cut 6

OpenStudy (vijay):

did u differentiate 3x-1 d(3x-1)/dx = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand because i thought i was supposed to differentiate sqrt (3x+1) which would be 1/2(3x+1)^-1/2

OpenStudy (vijay):

yes that that is correct, after this expression, u have to differentiate inside the sqrt .
