How do i solve a stem and leaf plot? -signed a 6th grader who's gonna fail :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are you trying to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im trying to solve a stem and leaf plot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk how to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the first side of the plot is the stem and that is the general # on the right side is the leaf which has the 2nd half of the number for instance if the left side says 1 on the other it say 5,6,8 that means 15,16,18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it depends what the question is asking.... if the question says how many kids got more than 11 candies it would be 3... beacuse all three of those #'s are greater that 1 on the left and 1 on the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, ok.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok i think im getting it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have a leaf plot and questions i can help you with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hope this helps!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the problem is; How many students scored at least 52 points but fewer than 100 points? stem;5 6 7 8 9 leaf; 26 2579 3 4 6 8 5 5 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so it is all those #'s because all of them are above 52 and below 100.... the lowest number scored is 56 and the highest is 90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur right! i think i get it now :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but thats not all is it? :I

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its all of those #s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

52 56 62 65 67 69 73 74 76 78 85 85 90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer = 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ur right! each number is paired with the number from their stem! so all 2gether it makes 13 numbers XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow, thanks! that was really helpful. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks again! bye
