20+10x=60+6x

OpenStudy (sandra):

20+ 10x -20 = 60 + 6x -20 10x = 40 + 6x 10x - 6x = 40 + 6x -6x 4x = 40

OpenStudy (sandra):

can you do the last step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (sandra):

ok great =). the key rule is, you can perform any mathematical operation to both sides of an equation and have the equation still be true

OpenStudy (sandra):

so if you look above, you'll see that's all I did - I added or subtracted the same thing from both sides

OpenStudy (sandra):

the end goal is to get x all alone by itself

OpenStudy (sandra):

the the final thought process should be, how do I make 4x into just x?

OpenStudy (sandra):

and the answer is, you divide by 4

OpenStudy (sandra):

so since you divided 4x by 4, you have to divide the other side by 4 too to get the answer

OpenStudy (sandra):

so 4x = 40 4x/4 = 40/4 x = 10

OpenStudy (sandra):

and walla

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanx

OpenStudy (sandra):

np!
