first you can go to wikipedia and read on python, to get the tools you need go to python.org, or sourceforge.com, python is open source so its free. you could get the ebook how to think like a computer scientist, its also open source and you can get it on the mit's open course ware.

the introduction to computer science and programming course by john guttag and eric grimson is an excellent introduction and beyond to the python language.
