The real life train that Joe modeled his train set after crosses a circular pond with radius 20.5 feet. How big of a circle should Joe draw to represent this pond in his model train set, if he is to stay consistent with the 1:12 ratio?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

20.5/12 feet. 1.708333333333333 feet

how do you get that?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we need to reduce the size of the pond for the model; but keep the same ration of 1 to 12. 1:12 is just a fraction 1/12. 20.5 times (1/12) = 20.5/12. then I used the calculator to make it easier on me :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

does that make sense?

yea.. thank you
