I have a simple question on ratios and proportions...can someone help?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

can try :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is here http://www.math.com/school/subject1/lessons/S1U2L2DP.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am having trouble with step 3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

20/25 = 4/5 is that your question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No Farther down...It says step 3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

itd be simpler if you just typed a question :)

In a horror movie featuring a giant beetle, the beetle appeared to be 50 feet long. However, a model was used for the beetle that was really only 20 inches long. A 30-inch tall model building was also used in the movie. How tall did the building seem in the movie?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says the answer is 75...I keep coming up with 600

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When it goes through the steps to solve it seems to be step 3 where I lose it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

20 is to 50 as 30 is to what number... lets write this like fractions: 20 30 -- = -- 50 x What do you get from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20 x X=30x50

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good, 20x = 1500 now how do we solve for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide both sides by 20

OpenStudy (amistre64):

very good, you are a pro at this :) that gives us: x = 1500/20 Which is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75

OpenStudy (amistre64):

TADA!!! excelent job :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks I was getting hung up on the inches and feet part of it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

You did great; keep up the good work :)
