How much of a 100% stock and diluent are needed to make 2 gallons of a 30% solution? I have tried propotion ratios and tables but nothing gives me an answer that makes sence.

In your 2 gallons, 30% will be that of the stock. So the amount of stock in your final solution is 0.3*2 gallons = 0.6 gallons. That means you need 2 - 0.6 = 1.4 gallons of diluent.
