A box contains a total of 14 quarters and dimes. the total value of the coins is $2.15. How many dimes and quarters are in the box?
hey
try to convert the sentences into equations.
A box contains a total of 14 quarters and dimes -> q+d = 14
ok
total value is $2.15 -> (.25)*q +(.10)*d=2.15
yep got that far
to solve a system of equations, you want to solve for one variable in terms of the other and then plug that into the equation you didn't use
Oh ok, but i cant figure out which one to use in this situation :(
??
well, you can do any number of things
you just want to get one variable by itself on one side of an equation and some stuff with the other variable on the other side
d = (something with q's)
but keep the value right?
you start with one of the equations
so...\[2.15=.10x+.25x\]? But where do i insert the 14?
no. you can't just change a q into a d
k.
do you know how to manipulate an equation without really changing the meaning?
Yeah
make it look different but still true?
you want to do that to one of them, but you want to get either d = or q = at the end
k, well its getting late here and I really appreciate your help but i think ima just wing it XD Parents say g2g to bed thanks alot though !
ok good luck
