OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u now how to write each fraction with lowest terms

OpenStudy (amistre64):

keep reducing till you cant reduce no more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tried but i dont now

OpenStudy (amistre64):

whats the fraction you are working with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like 25/30

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ok.... is there a number that both 25 and 30 have in common that we can "factor" out? Do you know what Im saying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (amistre64):

think about it now. What do you multiply to get 25? What do you multiply to get 30? (1)(25) = 25 (5)(5) = 25 (1)(30) = 30 (2)(15) = 30 (3)(10) = 30 (5)(6) = 30 What number do you see that 25 and 30 have in common?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5*5=25 5*6=30

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Very good :) we take out the (5) from each one to get 5/6. And that is what it is in lowest terms because 5 and 6 have nothing left in common. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 5/5

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Not quite. Do you see what I did with this? 25/5 5 ----- = --- 30/5 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh the answer is 5/6

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Yes it is, Now, do you SEE why it is 5/6? Tell me what I did to get that answer please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u multiplyed both

OpenStudy (amistre64):

multiplied? or divided? or how are you understanding it? Teach me how we got the answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u multiplied to see wat times wat gives u the answer

OpenStudy (amistre64):

very good. Now, can we do another one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but wat about 46/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for get it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since 9 is the smallest number; what do we know about it? 1(9) = 9 3(3) = 9 9(?) = 46? Nothing. 3(?) = 46? hmmm.... nothing. If you typed in the correct numbers: 46 ---- 9 Have nothing in common. So it is already in lowest terms.
