when writing linear equations what happens if you cant find a y intercept. as in the line is in between the coordinates. i cant determine the intercept like i think it would be a fraction or something....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well there is always going to be a y intercept and it very well can be a fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i decide what the fraction will be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if you are using a calculator you can use the trace and find it or probably best bet to estimate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i don't have a graphing calculator so i guess i have to estimate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what is the problem? like do you have an equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its a linear equation and i have the point 1,1 and the slope -1/2 and i graphed it and there is not an exact y intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok one sec let me see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my guess would be 1.8 or 1.9 because it looks like the line is near the 2 on the y intercept.. right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that looks about right i guess. thanks for the help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem:) anytime! Algebra is way more fun than what I have to do!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha i suck at algebra :( i love geometry!
