Kristen works at Best Buy. She receives a base salary of 500 dollars per week plus 4% commission on everything that she sells. a) create an equation that represents the total earnings in one week. Let x= the total amount of sales. b) If she wanted to make $720.00 per week how many sales would she have to make per week. [please explain step by step]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a 500+.04x The 500 is what they always get no matter what and the .04 is the amount they get for each sale which is represented by x b 720=500+.04x Then you let your equation equal the amount you want to make and solve for x by subtracting 500 and dividng by .04

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks i understand a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but for b dont i have to find out exactly how many sales that were made

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is why you are solving for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you go 720=500+.04x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok and u isolate x right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then 220=.04x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then divide 220 by .04

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

220/.04=5550

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so she would have to sell 5550 items to make 720 dollars right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

yayy!! thank you :)
