How many feet of fencing is needed to go around the deck: deck is 30 by 90 feet

The deck is 30 by 90 feet. This means that its one of its sides is 30 and the other is 90. Because it is a rectangle, we get a diagram like this. 90 ------------ | | 30 |____________ | but we know that if its 30 on one side, it will be 30 on the opposite side, and if its 90 on one side, it will be 90 on the other side. So then we have all 4 sides of the rectangle. 90 ------------ 30 | | 30 |____________ | 90 It's asking for how much fencing is needed to go AROUND the deck. So we need to find the PERIMETER of the deck. The formula for the perimeter of a rectangle is P=2L+2W What that means is you basically just add up all 4 sides to get the perimeter. So 30+30+90+90=240ft So 240ft of fencing is needed.
