The length of a rectangle is 1 less than twice its width, and the area of the rectangle is 55ft^2 . Find the dimensions of the rectangle

area = (2w-1)(w)

55 = 2w^2 -w

2w^2 -w -55 = 0

1/4 +- 21/4...-21/4 makes no sense, so we can toss it out the window.

1/4 + 21/4 = 22/4 = 11/2

the width of this thing is 11/2

l=2(11)/2-1 = 11-1 = 10

length = 10
width = 11/2

does that make sense? and does it fit?

55 = (10)(11)/(2)
55 = 110/2
