Scores were 325,198,262,301,275,229. If the range is 113, what would be the seventh score?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you mean, what is the 7th score if the average of all 7 is 113?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If that is what you mean the: \[(325+198 + 262 + 301 + 275 + 229 + x)/7=113\] Multiply by seven to get rid of the fraction: \[1590+x=791\] Less 1590 to get the value of x: \[x=-799\]

No, actually here is the problem: if Meagan scored 325, 198, 262, 301, 275, and 229 points in a game, what score would she have in the seventh game if the range is 113? It is just a 5th grade math problem, but we can't figure it out...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol.... it sounds like "range" might be a soccer term then. Otherwise it has no meaning in the question that a mathmaticer can relate to. "Range" in math referes to the output of a given function or equation. And is only determined by the "domain" of the function - the domain of course being all of the values for "x" that are acceptable to use.

i have no idea, we were working on mean, median, mode and range. all of the other questions made sense, but this one somehow did not.
