Before you start developing templates for individual sectors, start by asking what is unique about the sector. With mining, I guess that there are two things that set it apart: (a) the dependence on a commodity price that drives the value of both developed and undeveloped reserves and (b) the decision on whether to develop the undeveloped reserves. The former can be dealt with by normalizing earnings and using conventional models. The latter may require the use of real options.
