Can someone explain why -3 3/4 is greater than -3 1/8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

It is impossible to explain that since it is a false statment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean after you convert it to an improper fraction you will be able to explain it for me

myininaya (myininaya):

no!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

myininaya (myininaya):

its impossible

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its not

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Place them on a number line and see which one is greater than the other...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me explain that

OpenStudy (amistre64):

<----|---------------|-------> -4 -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative numbers are in the opposite order to positive numbers ie -100 is smaller than -10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean can someone help me explain this in sentance form

myininaya (myininaya):

okay we know 3>2 but -2>-3. .75>1.25 so -.75<-.125 so -3.75<-3.1.25

myininaya (myininaya):

oops -3.75<-3.125

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (amistre64):
