If you wrote this as a fraction x/3 = 8/x whenever you have a fraction = fraction you cross multiply. The top left times the bottom right (in this case x times x ) = the bottom left times the top right (in this case 3 times 8)

So x^2 = 24 to solve for this you sqrt both sides and x = sqrt(24) depending upon your level of math that could break down, but I would suppose with this type of problem your answer would just be sqrt(24)
