would this be 1/4? for the probability that a point chosen at random in the figure lies in the shaded region

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, it is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay.. would this one be 8/16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/8=2/4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm.. Is there no gaps between the two circles? and no gaps between the circle and the rectangle? I can't get a fraction, but I can get a decimal probability

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area of the shaded part = 128-100.531=27.469 Area of the rectangle = 128 Probability - 27.469/128=0.2146

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay.. can u help me with this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This one i'm unsure. I "assume" it's a isosceles right triangle Sin 45º=height/10 => height = 7.07106 Area of triangle = 7.07106*7.07106/2=25 Area of circle = 78.5398 Probability = 25/78.5398=0.3183 The need for assumption isn't good... need a theory for it somehow... but that's all i can do.. sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you
