OpenStudy (kiara):

1/2 + 2/8 =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is 3/8

OpenStudy (kiara):

how did you come up with your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I found a common denominator which was 8 and added the top together and kept the denominator the same

OpenStudy (kiara):

i thought you had to multiply the two denominators together then add the numerators then you simplify it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no kiara that is incorrect, i dont think you should put all of your homework questions on here, you should do something your self that is why you get help from the teacher so if you disagree with my thinking dont get cheat answers off of here then

OpenStudy (kiara):

we are looking for the least common denominators for my grandson in the 5th grade and it has been several years ago that I was in school

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kiara, you are correct. You can multiply the two denominators to give you a common denominator. 8*2 = 16. Therefore 1/2 = (1/2)*(8/8) = 8/16 2/8 = (2/8)*(2/2) =4/16 1/2 + 2/8 = 8/16 + 4/16 = 12/16 Then simplifying 12/16 = (4/4) * 3/4 = 3/4 Thus 3/4 is the correct answer, not 3/8.
