In 1995 the United States recovered 24% of its municipal wastes through recycling, up from 17% in 1990. Let P represent the percentage recycled and t the number of years since 1990. Based on these two data points, create a linear equation for the function that describes how P varies as a function of time. Use this function to predict the percentage recycled in 2001.

OpenStudy (nowhereman):

oh yeah, and soon enough it will rise above 100% :-D ok for the solution: assume the linear equation has the form \[P = a\cdot t + b\], then insert those two data-points and solve for a and b. But you should limit the range of t onto the interval from 1978 to 2049

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do I plug in the data points though? My answer options are: 30.5%, 34.1%, 32.4% or 28.8%
