one of the best features you could add is private messaging, with options to block specific users or only allowing "friends" to PM me. To become a friend you could just add a button near the become a fan button.

I really agree that this site should have prviate messaging. I think it is best to have the opportunity to block specifc users, because it would be relatively "easy" to press a friend button to send messages, and you could get unwanted messages anyway.
