OpenStudy (amanda):

what should i count by to make a box and whisker plot from 1.0 to 447.0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is your data?

OpenStudy (amanda):

1.0, 10.0, 15.7, 23.4, 31.3, 35.5, 58.2, 62.4, 117.4, 124.2, 162.9,183.9, 197.2, 202.6, 235.3, 240.1, 447.0

OpenStudy (amanda):

sklee i put the data down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Read this and I am sure you can get it http://www.worsleyschool.net/science/files/box/plot.html

OpenStudy (amanda):

okay

OpenStudy (amanda):

i dont understand that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you arrange your data in ascending form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, your data is already in that form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the median which is 117.4

OpenStudy (amanda):

yea i got that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then find the lower median which is (23.4 + 31.3)/2 = 27.35

OpenStudy (amanda):

so thts the lower quartile

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The upper median is (197.2 + 202.6)/2 = 199.9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (amanda):

kk and thts the upper quartile

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (amanda):

what about the least value and the greatest value and the outlier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The least value is 1 and the greatest value is 447

OpenStudy (amanda):

1.0 and 447.0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup, those they are

OpenStudy (amanda):

okay then the outliers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i cant draw the outlier here...so i am not sure if the link i sent to you earlier is helpful to you in that part

OpenStudy (amanda):

well i thought tht the outlier would be 447.0 cuz its not close to 240.1
