The regular price is $50. now on sale for $38. how do you figure the percent of discount and show work. thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

discount= (new price/old price)*100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how is the problem written out to show what percent that is off the original price.thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just plug in the prices into the equation, calculate it, then u get the percentage u needed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so $38/$50=0.76*100%=0.5776. i am dense, and i am mom helping 4th grader. i know its 24% off but i cant figure the process right. i m sorry can you show me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry. it should be discount= 100% - (new price/old price)*100% so discount= 100% - (38/50)100% = 100% - 76% = 24%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50/38= 100/ x, solving for x cross mult 3800=50x 3800/50=76 % discount frm 100% - 76 = 24 %
