On a sunny day, a 30-m tall flag pole and its shadow form the sides of a right triangle. On this particular day, the sun rises at 6 AM and sets at 6 PM. At what time of the morning (to the nearest minute) will the length of the shadow be exactly 40 m? (Hint: determine the angle of elevation of the sun)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for that particular time the elevation angle would be \[\tan^{-1} (3/4)\] . the duration that sun stays in sky is 12 hrs and total ang made by the sun in that full day is 180 degree. Therefore\[\tan^{-1} (3/4)\] the duration that sun has spend is \[12*\tan^{-1} (3/4)/\pi\]. U have to add this value with 6am.
