how do u guys plan on becoming profitable?

OpenStudy (chris):

Great question - and VERY open to feedback :p Right now we're funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of health - our primary goal is to grow and help as many students as we can. Or rather - connect them so they can help each other.

OpenStudy (chris):

That said - naturally at some point we will have to look at revenue to sustain ourselves. But we think if we build something really valuable for students - so valuable that they come back habitually and share it with their friends - that at some point we will be able to monetize.

OpenStudy (chris):

I can say - our core offering - peer-based-help - will always remain free.

OpenStudy (chris):

How would you see us monetizing? How would you see us promoting viral growth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, I personally wouldn't like advertising here. I don't think that it belongs in this kind of environment. Though that makes it hard to make money. I guess one way you could do it is charge for video chat rooms, in which people could video chat, etc.

aha! i think i came up with more ideas! You could have third party apps that you could have a fee for joining in, and possibly take a share of the profit they make (assuming they charge to use). Another way would be charge for private courses: ones that would have their own private session.

Thanks for the feedback, please keep it coming!
