what is the lateral are of a prism that has a height of 6 a width of 9 and a length of 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The lateral area of a prism is the area of the vertical sides only. If the length and width have values L and W respectively, and height, H, then,\[A=LH+WH+LH+WH\]as we go around the prism. But this is just,\[A=(2L+2W)H=PH\]where P is the perimeter of the prism. Here, P=9 x 2 + 5 x 2 = 28, so your lateral area is, A=PH=28 x 6 = 168.
