|x|=|x-1|+|x+1|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i solve it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You could square both sides and simplify, then you'll get a second degree equation to solve, that's my first idea ... x^2=((x-1)+(x+1))^2 --> x^2=(x-1)^2+2(x-1)(x+1)+(x+1)^2 (I know this looks terrible, but see if you can simplify it correctly)

ok, let me see...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, doesnt work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, my CASIO says it has no solutions, that's why :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my maple 14 also says it has no solutions
