I have a Jacobi matrix (An) with all a's down the main diagonal, all b's in the diagonal above the a's and all c's in the diagonal below, everything else is zeroes, I'm asked to generate a formula for it's determinant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Recursively, |A_{0}| = 1, |A_{1}| = a, |A_{n}| = a|A_{n-1}| -bc|A_{n-2}|

thx, so I actually have to prove that detAn part, wondering if you could help me out there
