1-r=5 help!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok think about it like this. we can rewrite 1-r like this right? -r + 1. it helps to think about these equations in real life sitautions. so say you have 5 apples and your friend Amy (for ex) has 1 apple - r apples. then how many more does she have than you? so in this case to find out how many more apples should amy get to make sure that she has the same number of apples as you? so you would make your anumber of apples equal her number of apples right? so you have 5 apples and she has 1 - r apples - where you don't know what r is. so let's say 1 - r = 5 now let's subtract one apple from both sides so we get 1 - r - 1 = 5 -1 so -r = 4 now multiply both sides by a negative so we get -1 * -r = -4 so r = -4 now you will have to find out what r is?

r=4 Just do the opposite of what it is(subtract, add, etc.) with the two numbers left. :D

ooh ok
