a baby tiger, from her birth, gains 3 pounds every 2 weeks. After 10 weeks, she weighs 17.5 pounds. how much did the tiger weigh at birth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's call the tiger's weigh at birth x, then x+10(3/2)=17.5 ---> x=2 pounds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think that is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

becuase i have multiple choice and these are the choices

OpenStudy (gg):

x-2.5 pounds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. 14.5 pounds b. 5.5 pounds c. 3 pounds d.2.5 pounds

OpenStudy (gg):

x=2.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do it thought

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah 2.5.. I forgot to put the 0.5.. the formula is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since there are 10 weeks and the tiger gains 3 lbs every 2 weeks.. u simply take 10/2 and u get 5. So u take the 5 and multiply it by 3 to get 15. Then just subtract 17.5-15 = 2.5
