Find the nth term and the 50th term in each of these linear sequences. a) 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, … b) 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, … c) 3, 8, 13, 18, 23, …
a) n + 3 = 50 n = 47 I guess :)
b) n + 2 = 50 n = 48 c) n + 5 = 50 n = 45 Correct me if I'm wrong, not sure of the answers ^^"
that's an arithmetic sequence, the term's difference in (a) is 3 and the first term is 4 . since the formula for arithmetic seqence is Un=a+(n-1)b the 50th term will be U50= 4+49.3=151
right >_< ! sorry ^^" and thank you :)
BecomeMyFan=D: R U \[\Phi\] nnish d ?
then the nth term is Un=4+(n-1).3 = 4+3n-3= 3n+1
check out about the arithmetic sequence here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arithmetic_progression
it's better to find the formula for nth term first, then find the 50th term by plugging 50 into n b) 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, … 1st term= 7 difference = 2 nth term will be-> Un= 2+(n-1)2 = 2n 50th term = 2(50) = 100 c) 3, 8, 13, 18, 23, … 1st term = 3 difference = 5 nth term = 3+(n-1)5 = 5n-2 50th term = 5(50)-2=248
