the length of a rectangle is 4 times its width. if the perimeter is 70 cm, find the length and width?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let the width = r. therefore length= 4r. perimeter = 2(length) + 2(width)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Consider that P = 2L + 2W ... so we know the length but not the width. You set up an equation, 70 = 2(4W) + 2W, simplify and solve the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which would be 70 = 10w

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, it would be 2(4r) + 2(4r)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and w = 10

outcastlilgurl already gave u the full solution. she used the same method. just different arbitrary.

oh, okay. thanks! this is a confusing problem to me, for some reason.
