Computers can only do what they are told, as such, any new application will need to be written by programmers so the software field will always be around.  That being said, programming and software development is like other fields, you should enjoy what you do.  The pay for the work required isn't the best in the world, but if you enjoy programming and developing software there will always be places to fit in.
