the commutative property gets its name from being able to move, or commute, the number around freely

associative- you can associate, or join, numbers together freely

if you can remember the definitions, like the ones above, then all you have to do is apply to what you know you can and cant do

for instance, if you have x/y you know that y/x cannot be done, so the commutative property doesnt work on division because you cant move them freely

You go from home to work and then at the end of the day you go from work to home

h + w = w + h

mathematically

3 + 2 = 2 + 3
This allows you to add which ever way you want..
